Gardens are never just about plants — they are about memory, imagination, and the threads of care that tie one generation to the next. At The Jazzfarm, our 2.4-hectare garden carries these threads deeply. Julian comes from a long line of gardeners. His grandfather’s veggie patch first taught him the magic of coaxing food from the earth, while his mother’s devotion to flowers instilled a love of colour and beauty. Later, his career as a greensman in the film industry honed his skill and creativity, with his work credited in internationally acclaimed films such as Hotel Rwanda and Invictus.
Today, gardening remains not only our passion but also our way of life. The Jazzfarm garden is a tapestry of contrasts: carefully cultivated and curated spaces sit alongside re-wilded, open expanses, where grasses, wildflowers, and birdsong reclaim their place. This balance between order and wilderness is what gives the land its unique rhythm — a place that is both sanctuary and classroom.

We garden according to organic and permaculture principles, always guided by the belief that working with the earth should regenerate rather than exploit. Over the years, this philosophy has shaped the land into living chapters:
- The Dagga Farmacy Jazzfarm Cannabis Nursery, a space for education and cultivation.
- A flourishing cactus nursery, alive with sculptural forms.
- A thriving food garden, grounding us in the cycles of nourishment.
- And our legendary Cannabis garden, private and treasured, where no-till raised beds have been lovingly maintained for over twenty years.
But our garden is not just for us. It has become a farm classroom, where we share knowledge about sustainability, biodiversity, and the simple joy of feeling the earth under your feet. Workshops and visits invite others to connect with soil, seed, and story — ensuring that gardening wisdom continues to grow.
Dotted throughout are Julian’s mosaics, art collected over decades, and quiet corners where one can sit, breathe, and reflect. These spaces remind us that a garden is not just something you look at; it is something you enter into, something that changes you as you care for it.

At The Jazzfarm, our garden is alive with memory, artistry, and community. It is both a living artwork and a classroom — a place where plants, people, and stories intertwine deeply.
