Every home has a first love, and for The Jazzfarm, that first love was the Boudoir Cottage. This was Myrtle’s very first home when she moved here, and it carries with it all the warmth, creativity, and spirit of those beginnings. She affectionately called it her “Boudoir” — a word that captures not only intimacy, but also a sense of sanctuary, a private space where one can retreat, reflect, and simply be.
Back then, the cottage was a simple, thatched space with sunlight spilling in through its small windows and walls that held the promise of a new life unfolding. Over time, as Myrtle’s vision for The Jazzfarm grew, so did the cottage itself. In 2008, a kitchenette and bathroom were added, giving it the practicality of a modern dwelling while retaining its rustic charm. What once was a small personal refuge became a welcoming guest space, inviting others to share in its spirit.
The Boudoir Cottage celebrates the feminine in all its forms. Its walls are alive with portraits and artworks of women — strong, tender, mysterious, and radiant. Each piece tells a story, and together they create an atmosphere that honours creativity, beauty, and the many shades of womanhood. To step inside is to be surrounded by this quiet celebration, a space that feels both grounding and inspiring.
The architecture itself is part of the experience. The high thatch roof gives the cottage a feeling of airiness and space, with light shifting throughout the day to create moods of brightness and calm. In summer, the thick thatch keeps the cottage cool, making it a breezy and spacious retreat. In winter, the same roof holds warmth close, and the interiors become cozy and intimate, a perfect place to curl up with a blanket, a glass of wine, or a book.
The Boudoir is more than just a cottage; it’s a chapter in the story of The Jazzfarm. It speaks of beginnings, of transformation, and of the way spaces carry energy long after their first purpose has shifted. For guests, it offers both comfort and character, a cottage that is as much about atmosphere as it is about accommodation.
A home filled with art, memory, and a celebration of the feminine spirit.
At The Jazzfarm, every building has its own tale to tell. The Boudoir Cottage remains one of the most personal — a home filled with art, memory, and a celebration of the feminine spirit.
