The Reservoir Cottage story

Reservoir Cottage
It’s a place that cradles you, encouraging rest and reflection.

Every corner of The Jazzfarm carries a story of transformation, and perhaps none more so than Reservoir Cottage. What began as a disused water reservoir — a simple circular structure at the edge of the garden — has become one of our most distinctive places to stay. Built on the original foundations, the cottage has been reimagined as a cozy, welcoming retreat under a charming thatched roof.

The circular design gives the space a natural calmness, echoing traditional African architecture where round walls invite a sense of balance and harmony. Step inside, and the cottage feels both grounding and intimate, with sunlight filtering through its windows to soften the curve of the room. It’s a place that cradles you, encouraging rest and reflection.

Inside, you’ll find a double bed and a single bed, making it perfect for a small family, close friends, or simply one or two guests who want a little extra space. The quaint bathroom, tiled with character and care, completes the sense of homeliness. It’s the kind of space designed not for luxury, but for comfort — a place to lay your head after a busy day at a Jazzfarm event, or to retreat into after wandering the gardens.

Reservoir Cottage is both humble and special.

Reservoir Cottage also holds layers of artistic history. Before it was renovated, the late photographer Simon Scholz used the space for video shoots, bringing an energy of creativity that lingers in its walls. Today, eclectic artwork, including one of his murals, celebrates that legacy and gives the cottage its unique personality.

Overlooking the gardens, Reservoir Cottage is both humble and special — a reminder that even the most utilitarian beginnings can be transformed into spaces of rest, creativity, and connection.
